Symptoms

A test connection, a backup, or a restore fails with the following error: INVALID_SESSION_ID; ExceptionMessage=This session is not valid for use with the API

Causes

Salesforce multi-factor authentication is enabled with session security levels where High Assurance is set for Session security level required at login on the profile settings. However, this setting is not compatible for customers that selected the option to add a Salesforce organization with password-based authentication.
