SAP MAXDB log backup jobs report Completed with Errors

SAP MAXDB log backup job completes the data phase but does not invoke the config phase, and the job reports Completed with Errors.

Symptoms

The SAP MAXDB log backup job completes with errors. The dbm.ebl file on the MAX DB instance shows the following error:

Receiving a reply from the database kernel.
Reply from db-kernel:
SQL-Code              :-123
End of reply from db-kernel.
Could not free logpages.

Causes

The log backup job is unable to invoke the config phase.

Resolution

Complete the following steps:

1. Set the EnableLogBackupToPipe parameter to NO. dbmcli on db1>param_put EnableLogBackupToPipe NO
2. Restart the DB Instance. dbmcli on db1>db_stop dbmcli on db1>db_online
3. Initiate a new log backup job.
