Restoring a SQL Server instance to Amazon RDS Custom with a restore destination path that is outside the D:\rdsdata folder makes the SQL Server instance unavailable.

Symptoms

The SQL Server instance is unavailable to perform the restore operation.

Causes

The SQL Server instance is unavailable because Amazon RDS Custom considers the SQL Server instance to be outside of the support perimeter and changes the status of the SQL instance to unavailable.

Resolution

Use one of the following resolutions:

Rename the database and all the database files.
Use a restore destination path that is under the D:\rdsdata folder.
