Auxiliary Copy Job Goes into a Pending State

Article ID: AUXCP0020 The auxiliary copy job goes into a pending state due to media errors.

Symptom

In the Admin Job Detail dialog box, on the General tab, the Reasons for Job Delay box displays one of the following reasons:

Source Media Error/ Source Media not Available
Read Error
Target Media Mount Error

Cause

The auxiliary copy job goes into a pending state if the source media is unavailable, portions of backups are not readable, or if the target media cannot be mounted.

Resolution

  1. On the ribbon in the CommCell Console, click the Storage tab, and then click Media Management.
  2. Click the Auxiliary Copy Configuration tab.
  3. To skip jobs during the auxiliary copy operation, in the Skip job on read errors during Auxiliary Copy box, type 1.
  4. Click OK.

Note: By enabling the Skip job on read errors during Auxiliary Copy parameter, the auxiliary copy job skips only the error condition and finishes copying the remaining job. It does not resolve the error condition, and the auxiliary copy job might still fail, go into a pending state, or finish with errors.

The following table explains how the auxiliary copy job will run after resolving the issues:

Error Resolution outcome

Source Media Error/Source Media Not Available

The auxiliary copy job continues to copy other data protection jobs while skipping the specific media. After copying all the jobs, the system attempts to copy the jobs on the skipped media.

Note: When the auxiliary copy job skips the media, it skips all jobs on that media.

Read Error

The auxiliary copy job continues to copy data protection jobs while skipping the portion of the job with the read errors. After copying all the jobs, the system attempts to copy the skipped portions of the job.

Target Media Mount Error

The auxiliary copy job retries the operation. If the error persists, the job hangs in a pending state.
