The Search Engine index might contain too many segments and requires optimization.

Symptoms

Searching content indexed data is taking too long or searches are timing out.

Resolution

Determine if the number of segments in the Search Engine exceeds the recommended limit of 100. If so, optimize the Search Engine index.

To determine the number of segments in the Search Engine:

  1. Open a web browser on the search engine server, and go to: http://host:port/solr/admin/stats.jsp where host is the host name of the Search Engine and port is the base port number of the Search Engine.

Note: The base port number is stored in the following registry key on the Search Engine server: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CommVault Systems\Galaxy\instance\Machines\ServerName\SearchServer\nBASEPORT where instance is the instance number of the Search Engine installation. The base port number is located in parentheses. For example, if the registry key is 0x00001234(12345), then the base port number is 12345.

  1. In the Statistics section, locate the Segment Count number.

If the Segment Count is above 100, optimize the search index. For instructions go to Commvault DocumentationOptimize the Search Index.
