Error Code: [153:3] Salesforce User Does Not Have Permission to Perform Backup and Recovery Operations

A Salesforce backup operation or a Salesforce recovery operation fails because the Salesforce user does not have the permissions needed to perform the operations.

Symptoms

Backup jobs and restore jobs fail.

Resolution

Best Practice: The Salesforce user who performs the backup operations and the restore operations has a system administrator profile.

If you cannot provide a user who has a system administrator profile, you can create a profile in Salesforce that contains the following individual permissions.

Important: Some data might not be backed up due to Salesforce restrictions.

Permissions Needed for Backup Operations Profile settings:

• API Enabled
• View All Data
• Manage Chatter Message and Direct Messages
• Manage Data Integrations
• At least Read access to all standard and custom fields
• Query All Files

User Settings:

• Knowledge User (to retrieve knowledge objects)
• Flow User (to download flows)
• Marketing user (to retrieve campaign objects)
• License for any other installed package or feature to access its data

If you need to backup Salesforce metadata, you need the following additional permissions:

• Modify All Data or Modify Metadata Through Metadata API Functions
• Author Apex
• Download AppExchange Packages

• Modify All Data
• Author Apex
• Write access to all standard and custom fields
• Optional: Bulk API Hard Delete The Bulk API Hard Delete permission is needed to delete data before doing a full sandbox restore.
