Backups to cluster shared volumes (CSVs) hang intermittently when the CSVs of virtual machines are in a redirected access state.
If any cluster shared volumes (CSVs) of virtual machines are in a redirected access state, a backup operation might hang up intermittently.
This issue occurs only on a Windows 2008 R2 host. The backup can proceed from only one node at a time because the CSV needs to be pinned to the node for an exclusive access.
Identify virtual machines for which the CSV is inconsistent by looking at events in Windows Event Viewer for the application, system, and Hyper-V virtual machines.
