Error Code 14:102 Unable to copy DIR_CHANGE to the CreateIndex process on MediaAgent.

Article ID: IND0001 During backup, Index processing fails with error coder 14:102

Symptom

Incremental backup fails with error code 14:102 Unable to copy DIR_CHANGE to the CreateIndex process on MediaAgent. Index processing failed..

Cause

The default behavior of the Index Cache for an incremental backup is to copy the last index and use it for the new job’s CreateIndex/UpdateIndex process.  If the index is larger than 2GB (2048MB), the last index will be renamed instead of copied.  Failure to rename the DIR_CHANGE file will cause error.  Failure may occur if file is held open by another process.

Resolution

Re-running backup as full usually clears the error.

There exists a sSpaceSaver registry key to change the behavior of the Index Cache. You can increase the threshold (default 2048MB) or force it to always COPY or RENAME.

Description

Controls indexing behavior - copy vice rename during index update.

y or Y = always rename.

0 = always copy (infinite threshold).

Other decimal number in the form of a string is interpreted as the threshold in MB.

Any cache directory less than the threshold in total size is copied, and any cache directory greater than or equal to the threshold in total size is renamed.
