Question

There is logic to the order in which Disk Library MountPaths are used

Answer

If a disk library’s “Fill & Spill” option is selected (default) AND a NEW VOLUME
folder request is made on that library, THEN the library’s online, writable mountpaths
will be searched in order in which they were created starting with the oldest AND the
first available writer found will be used to create/write the New Volume. If writers are
multiplexed, then all available multiplexing streams on a writer will be used first.

If NO New Volume folder request is made, then the job will attempt to continue to use
the ACTIVE volume folder for that storage policy copy and stream. If the ACTIVE
volume folder is unavailable, then a NEW VOLUME folder request will be made using
the previous logic.

If a disk library’s “Spill & Fill” option is selected AND a NEW JOB request is made
on that library, THEN the library’s UNRESERVED online, writable mountpaths will be
searched in order of (a) Least recently used; (b) Least used; and (c);Oldest created
mountpath. The first available writer found will be used. Current ACTIVE folders are
not considered and are always marked Full.

If there are NO UNRESERVED, online, writable mountpaths then the search will be in
order in which the mountpaths were created starting with the oldest AND the first
available writer found will be used to create/write the New Job. If writers are multiplexed,
that all available writers will be used first before another multiplex stream is used.
