Error Code [20098] Inline copy failed to reserve the MediaAgent used by primary copy

Article ID: MM0059 Inline Copy job goes into a pending state with error code: 20098.

Symptom

Error Code [20098] error string [Inline copy failed to reserve the MediaAgent used by primary copy. Please make sure Inline copy and primary copy can share the same MediaAgent for backup. If the issue persists, please upload log files from CommServe, MediaAgent and Client and contact your vendor's support hotline with the job ID of the failed job.] 

Cause

The primary copy and the inline copy do not have a common MediaAgent.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, suspend the backup job, ensure that the MediaAgent is common between the primary copy and the inline copy and then resume the job.

  1. From the CommCell Console toolbar menu, click Job Controller.
  2. To suspend the backup operation, from the Job Controller window, right-click the backup job, and then click Suspend.
  3. From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies > Storage Policies.
  4. Right-click the appropriate inline copy, and then click Properties.
  5. Click the Data Path tab.
  6. Click the Add button, select the same MediaAgent that is configured for the primary copy and click OK.
  7. Select the new MediaAgent and click the Set Default button and click OK.
  8. From the CommCell Console toolbar menu, click Job Controller.
  9. Right-click the suspended job and click Resume.
