A restore operation of a SharePoint 2007 web application completes with an error message.

Symptoms

A restore operation of a SharePoint web application completes with the following error message:

SPUpdatedConcurrencyException: An update conflict has occurred, and you must re-try this action. The object SPWebApplication Name=[WebApp_name] is being updated by [user_account], in the OWSTIMER process, on machine [machine_name]. View the tracing log for more information about the conflict.

Causes

The restore operation fails when a conflict occurs because multiple timer jobs are running against a web application.

Resolution

To run a restore operation, complete the following steps:

  1. Stop the SharePoint Timer Service.
  2. If any partially restored web applications exist, delete them.
  3. Start the SharePoint web application restore operation.
  4. After the restore operation is complete, restart the SharePoint Timer Service.
