Snapshot backup operation fails for the VSM storage array or GAD, with error message "Unable to find OS device(s) corresponding to snap(s)/clone(s)"

Article ID: SSNAP0002 For the VSM storage array or GAD, the snapshot backup job fails.

Symptom

For the HDS VSM storage array or HDS GAD storage arrays, the snapshot backup job fails, with the error message "Unable to find OS device(s) corresponding to snap(s)/clone(s)".

Cause

You might have created a logical device (LDEV), without assigning a virtual LDEV ID to the LDEV ID.

Resolution

For the HDS VSM arrays, if you plan to use Shadow Image (SI) snapshots, verify that you completed the following tasks in the Hitachi Command Suite or the Storage Navigator, or by using CCI commands:

  • Create a logical device (LDEV) in the physical array. This LDEV has an identifier (for example, 00:00:0E), which is called the LDEV ID.
  • Add this LDEV ID to the HDS VSM storage array, and assign a virtual LDEV ID to the LDEV ID.

If you use Thin Image (TI) snapshots, then the Commvault software can assign the virtual LDEV ID automatically. If you want the Commvault software to assign the virtual LDEV ID automatically, then select the Create VVOL for Thin Image (CCI TI engine) snapshot configuration property check box.
