Secondary SCSI disk assigned to VM becomes inaccessible after a backup

Enabling Change Block Tracking (CBT) caused disk to go into a read-only status.

Symptoms

Disabling and then re-enabling changed block tracking (CBT) on Virtual Machine causes SCSI disk  to disappear or report that the File System needs to be repaired.  After detaching and re-attaching the disks back to the Virtual Machine the disks are accessible again.

Causes

Known issue with early version of VMware vRealize Automation - formerly known as vCloud Automation Center (vCAC). See VMware Knowledge Base article:

Virtual machines deployed from VMware vRealize Automation fail to power on or power on with CBT enabled SCSI disks set to read-only (2072416)

Resolution

As per VMware Knowledge Base article the issue is fixed in vCAC version 5.1 U 2.  Upgrade to latest version of VMware vRealize Automation..
