Only perform a backup for a read-only DFSR server. Never back up or restore computers running DFSR on read-write members in a production environment.

Symptoms

Distributed File System Replication (DFSR) fails to replicate files after you restore a virtualized server from backup.

Causes

The DFSR database and other Windows multi-master databases do not support snapshots.

Never back up or restore computers running DFSR on read-write members in a production environment.

Resolution

Work with Microsoft Support to fix the affected server.
