Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) shadow copy creation fails on Windows clients

Article ID: WFS0010 On Windows computers, Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) shadow copy creation fails.

Symptom

On Windows computers, Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) shadow copy creation fails and reports the following error in the CVMA.log:

Cause

The size of the shadow copy storage area on the volume is not large enough to store data for shadow copies.

Resolution

  • For volumes that are smaller than 500 MB, VSS requires 32 MB of free space.
  • For volumes that are larger than 500 MB, VSS requires 320 MB of free space.
