Error Code 18:18 Oracle database is not available.

The database may be down or in an unknown state.

Symptoms

Attempts to collect information from the Oracle database fails or attempt to backup the Oracle database fails with error code 18:18  Oracle database is not available.  The database may be down or in an unknown state.

Causes

Commvault software cannot communication with the Oracle Instance. Commvault or Oracle services may be down. Communication may not be configured correctly.  Firewall or other network issues may be denying access.

Resolution

If first attempt after installing Oracle iDataAgent:

• Check Oracle network communication (TNSNames, SQLNet, etc.) configuration.
• Verify correct user, password, and connection string entered in iDataAgent's instance properties.
• Use SQLPlus to verify you can communicate with the Oracle instance using connection string used by Oracle iDataAgent.
• Check Commvault services are running on the client.
• Check port numbers used are enabled through firewall.
• Check network connection between CommServe, MediaAgent, and Client.

If communication/backups have been successful in the past with this iDataAgent:

• Check network connection between CommServe, MediaAgent, and Client.
• Check Commvault services are running on the client
• Check for changes in firewall configuration that may be denying port access.
