Virtual machine files might fail to open because there is not enough space in the Job Results folder. The Job Results folder is the default location for the cache that is used to mount the temporary NFS datastore for the virtual machine backup.
When you perform a Live Browse, Live Mount, Live VM Recovery, or Live File Recovery operation, the job fails with errors similar to the following errors in the 3dnfs.log file:
Failed to add [install_path\Program Files\CommVault\Simpana\iDataAgent\JobResults\3dfs_data_path_] to cache.
Failed to open [vm_name.vmx]. [No space left on device]
The Live Browse feature caches virtual machine data on the MediaAgent to mount an NFS datastore that can be used to access file data for a virtual machine backup. By default this cache, called the 3dfs cache, is located in the Job Results folder for the MediaAgent. If the volume containing the 3dfs cache does not have enough space to mount the NFS datastore, the job fails.
The 3dfs cache requires a minimum of 20 GB. The 3dfs cache is circular; unused data are pruned from the cache as needed. By default, 5% free space is maintained on the cache.
If the Job Results folder does not have enough space, you can specify a different location for the 3dfs cache. Change the path by configuring the s3dfsRootDir additional setting:
You can also change the required minimum percentage of free space by using the n3dfsCacheMinFree additional setting.
