The Exchange System Discovery Tool is Unable to Initialize MAPI

Exchange System Discovery Tool fails to collect data because the tool version does not match the version of MS Outlook that is scanned.

Symptoms

Exchange System Discovery Tool data collection fails with the following error:

Unable to initialize MAPI. Required Version of Outlook is probably not installed.

Causes

There are two possible causes for this error:

• You used the 64-bit version of Exchange System Discovery Tool to collect data from a 32-bit version of MS Outlook.
• You used the 32-bit version of Exchange System Discovery Tool to collect data from a 64-bit version of MS Outlook.

Resolution

Download the version of Exchange System Discovery Tool that matches the version of MS Outlook installed on the computer where you will collect data:

• Use the 32-bit version of Exchange System Discovery Tool to collect data from the 32-bit version of MS Outlook.
• Use the 64-bit version of Exchange System Discovery Tool to collect data from the 64-bit version of MS Outlook.
