An Oracle backup operation failed on a newly deployed Windows Oracle server because the OS user that was running the Oracle service does not have read/write access to the necessary Commvault software folders and registry path.

Symptoms

Oracle backups fail and errors similar to the following occur in the ClOraAgent.log file: Error Code: [18:179] RMAN channel encountered error [User [.\orahomeuser] has no write access on folder [C:\Program Files\Commvault1\ContentStore\Base\Temp] User [.\orahomeuser] has no write access on folder [C:\Program Files\Commvault1\ContentStore\Log Files] ]. Please fix these errors and resume the job

Causes

Oracle services need read/write access to Commvault folders and the registry. This allows the SBT library to be loaded and executed in the context of the Oracle user. The Oracle user must have read/write access to the following items:

Without the necessary access rights, Oracle backups may fail for Oracle 12c and later releases.
