Restoring Only the SQL Transactions Log Backups to a Disk

Article ID: 67218

Article Type: Technical Reference

Last Modified:

By default, a SQL restore to disk operation includes the data and transaction logs that are backed up since the last restore operation. Use this procedure to restore only the transaction log backups to a disk. Restoring only the logs to a disk is useful when you have to convert the logs to a native format used by third-party applications, like QLIK (Streaming Data With Change Data Capture | Qlik). Note: The initial restore job will restore the latest full backup and logs backups (if any). You can schedule subsequent restore jobs with the same source and destination client computers to restore only the log backups.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, click Client Computers > client > SQL Server.
  2. Right-click the instance, and then click All Tasks > Browse and Restore.
  3. In the Browse and Restore Options dialog box, click Advanced Restore, then click the Advanced Options tab.
  4. In the Options tab, select the Restore to Disk check box.
  5. In the Path box, type the restore path where you want to restore the logs.
  6. In the Restore Types group, select the Latest Backup Data and Logs Backup Only check boxes.
  7. Clear the Drop Connections to Database check box, and then click OK.
  8. Click OK to start the restore operation.
