On AIX 7.2, Commvault processes such as cvd, clBackup, and ifind core dump intermittently.

Symptoms

On AIX 7.2 clients, in Feature Release 11.20 and more recent releases, Commvault processes such as cvd, clBackup, and ifind core dump intermittently, and the following errors appear:

Causes

IBM operating system bug. It is fixed in APAR IJ30808. https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/apar/IJ30808 IJ30808: MULTITHREADED APPLICATIONS CORE DUMP OR HANG APPLIES TO AIX 7200-05

Resolution

Verify that the operating system patch IJ30808 is installed on the client. If not, then install it. Procedure

  1. From the command line, run the following command: instfix -I -k IJ30808
  2. Run the following command: lslpp -l bos.rte.libpthreads (the minimum required version is 7.2.5.1)
  3. Stop the Commvault services.
  4. Install the IBM OS patch IJ30808 on the AIX client.
  5. Restart the Commvault services.
