The base package fails to install. The remote registry cannot be accessed.

Symptoms

Base package fails to install, and the following error message is returned:

Error Code: [68:182] Description: Failed to install Base Package. Failed to access remote registry.

Causes

The most common causes for this error are firewall/networking issues.

Resolution

Troubleshoot the error as follows:

• Verify that you have followed the prerequisites for installations using the CommCell Console, including review firewall and network port requirements. For more information, see Prerequisites for Installations Using the CommCell Console.
• Verify that the correct Commvault ports are opened. For more information, see TCP Ports Used for Services.
• Verify that the Windows firewall is configured correctly to allow CommCell communication. For more information, see Configuring Windows Firewall to Allow CommCell Communication.
• You may have a secure site that closes the required ports or blocks access to the remote registry, thus preventing push installs from completing. In this case, perform a local (interactive) installation. For more information, see Local Installation.
• After installing or upgrading the Commvault agents to Feature Release 20 on a Windows 2003 Server, you may experience that the CVD service is unable to start, and the process crashes.
