Error: Instance status check failed

When attempting to convert a virtual machine to an Amazon Web Services (AWS) instance, the instance status check fails and the job completes with errors.

Symptoms

When attempting to convert a virtual machine to an Amazon Web Services (AWS) instance, the user receives the following error message:

Instance status check failed. Refer to KB article https://kb.commvault.com/article/77612 for prerequisites and further troubleshooting.

Causes

The instance check can fail for one or more of the following reasons:

• The guest credentials provided are incorrect
• On the source VM, Windows Firewall does not allow access to RDP/SSH
• There is less than 2 GB free space on the boot drive
• Entries in /etc/fstab use device names instead of UUIDs

Resolution

1. Review the requirements in the following pages:

2. Perform a new backup. 3. Retry the conversion to AWS.
