If the volume is read-only, the IntelliSnap backup fails.
Symptoms
An IntelliSnap backup fails with the following job pending reason:Error Code: [32:392] Snapshot creation failed because the volume is read-only. Please make sure the volume is read-writable. : [Snapshot creation failed because the volume is read-only.]Source: <MediaAgent>, Process: CVNasSnapBackup or CVFSSnap
Causes
The subclient content data is on a NetApp read-only volume such as a SnapMirror destination volume.
Resolution
Use Commvault to drive the mirroring. If the subclient content is on a NetApp mirror, consider adding the mirror source as a client/subclient and creating a plan to drive the snapshot replication to the mirror. In this configuration, the following apply:- Commvault can create snapshots on the source, mirror them to the destination, and create backup copies for long term retention.- Browse and restore can be run from the source snap, mirror snap, or backup copy to provide easy and fast restores from a single interface.
Instead of using IntelliSnap backups, use streaming backups. Specifically, modify the subclient to not use snapshots:- In Command Center, clear the Enable hardware snapshot subclient check box.- In the CommCell Console, clear the IntelliSnap advanced subclient check box. If you are using the CIFS agent, modify the Check archive bit during backups subclient advanced option in the CommCell Console.
The Check archive bit during backups option uses the archive bit on files to determine whether they are modified and clears that bit after the file backup is complete. If the data is read-only, the bit cannot be cleared, and incremental backups will re-backup the files.
