Article ID: 82492

Article Type: Troubleshooting

Last Modified:

This is identified as a configuration issue in the customer environment. The customer has a PV (/dev/mapper/vgdata) with same name as VG (/dev/mapper/vgdata). During restore by revert system command vgcfgrestore is failing because it’s not able to distinguish between PV and VG.

Symptoms

Failed to Revert Volume Snaps. Err [-1:Failed to update metadata for VG group [vgdata]:   WARNING: Found 1 active volume(s) in volume group "vgdata". Do you really want to proceed with restore of volume group "vgdata", while 1 volume(s) are active? [y/n]: [n] Restore aborted.

Causes

The PV (/dev/mapper/vgdata) with same name as VG (/dev/mapper/vgdata) and during restore by revert system command vgcfgrestore is failing because it’s not able to distinguish between PV and VG.

Resolution

You needs to rename either PV or VG, run a new snap backup and then try to perform the restore. You also need to change the /etc/multipath.conf to have aliases that are different from VG names.
